A Roue with a View #2

During the recent holiday season, the Grand Roue returned to the Tuileries garden.  It was the centerpiece of the Christmas market and fair in the garden and we could watch it spin from our window.

The Grand Roue is so tall (nearly 200 feet) that it is visible from all over Paris, especially from the Eiffel Tower.  Even our Parisian friends Eliane and Jean-Charles could see it from their apartment in the 6th arrondissement, about 2 miles away.

From our window, we enjoyed seeing the Grand Roue every day and night, from its setup to its tear down.

We rode the Grand Roue twice during December.  Although it was a bit cold and windy at the top, the views of Paris at night were lovely.

A view of the Champs-Élysées lined with red lights, the obelisk (left) and the Arc de Triomphe (top right)
We also saw the Palais Garnier opera house and the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur on top of Montmartre.

The fair itself was brightly lit.

One of the best landmark-filled views appears below.  Can you find the Louvre, the Pyramid, the Arc du Carrousel, Notre-Dame de Paris and the Pantheon?  If you look closely, you might even find the Institut de France.

We even had a nice view of our street and apartment.

Rue Saint-Roch.  Our apartment is above the bright white sign on the right.
Each time we rode the Grand Roue, our timing was fortunate.  We saw the Eiffel Tower sparkle at the top of the hour.  Click on the video to see the tower twinkling.

Thanks for again riding the Grand Roue with us.

P.S.  Jean-Claude, whenever he was lost, could spot the Grand Roue and then navigate back to our apartment.  (Jean-Claude was a boy scout, but he must have failed orienteering.)
