Presepe di Natale #2

Following our tour of a small collection of small presepi (nativity scenes), our tour takes us to some large presepi in Florence.

Three of the best known nativity scenes are pictured below.  Enjoy the tour.

On the steps of the Florence cathedral is a large nativity scene, with terra cotta figures.   The design is simple yet beautiful.

The Basilica of Santissima Annunziata has a traditional nativity scene in a chapel inside the church.

On the steps of the Basilica of San Lorenzo is a nativity scene that combines the traditional with Florence.  The scene includes a replica of Florence in the 1500's, together with portraits of famous Florentines over the centuries.

A traditional presepe di natale can be found in the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella.

On the street where we live is a convent school with a nativity scene in the lobby.  There are many similar nativity scenes all over Florence and in other places we have visited.

A lovely presepe at the ancient Orsanmichele in the heart of Florence.

A nearly life-sized presepe at the Church of San Carlo dei Lombardi in the very center of Florence.
