Travels in Tuscany--Montecatini (Part 4 of 4)

Near the end of our visit to Montecatini, we discovered a large pastry shop, the Pasticceria Giovannini.

What first caught our attention was a large cake in the display window.  And by "large", we mean enormous.  See the photo below, plus some other photos.

That is one large and beautifully decorated cake.  The full-sized bottles in the photo (upper left) provide some scale for understanding that the cake could feed a lot of people.  (Of course, we have one friend with the metabolism of a jet engine, who could probably eat the entire cake, provided there was plenty of milk on hand.)

This dude knows cakes!

The shop's specialty is a large, thin wafer with almond filling.  It resembles a communion wafer but is about 5" in diameter.  Yum!

The shop has so many sweets to choose from.  Where to start?

Needless to say, we did not leave the shop empty-handed.  We pigged out!
Our visit to Montecatini was wonderful.  We plan on visiting one of the spas next time, plus returning to the pastry shop.
