What is Provins known for?
Over the centuries, Provins has been known for roses. Roses have been cultivated for decoration and for creating all sorts of products such as jam, fragrances, soap, and so forth.
Provins is home to a very large and very lovely rose garden that we visited, La Roseraie de Provins.
We timed our visit a bit too late. The peak season for roses had already passed, but there were still many blooms to see, smell and enjoy. The garden is large, with many paths leading here and there. Our walk was long and tranquil. All the sounds we could hear were the light breeze, some birds and a small stream.
Here is a photographic tour of the garden.
Fall has arrived and the leaves are changing color. We saw some rich red and rust colors, plus some holly berries.
The garden is filled with a countless variety of roses with distinctive names. Below is the rare and beautiful Marie-Chantal rose.
During our walk, we crossed a couple of streams and even spotted a racing tortoise and hare.
We learned that it is mushroom and apple season in France
The garden has its hotel, pictured below.
So what products are made from roses? Three specialties in Provins are rose petal jam, rose honey and rose candy.
