Our tour of FIAC Hors les Murs continues.
Near the end of the exposition, the sculpture below appeared in the Tuileries garden. Although the finish is rough and somewhat grotesque, Jean-Claude likes this sculpture. It seems to resemble an abstract face with large eyes. The title, Turn Your Eyes to Sleep, suggests the two odd creatures on top are arriving as sleep comes.
Below is a monumental abstract sculpture called Nelly.
Marie-Chantal snapped the photo below near sunset. We like how the warm color of the stone building (the Louvre) interacts with the rusty steel of the sculpture.
The installation below is called Elf rien à foutre. (Loose translation: Elf, the oil company, doesn't give a damn. Elf is an oil company.) The installation represents, in part, the illicit trafficking of gasoline from Nigeria to neighboring Benin. The car is a Peugeot 504, which the artist says was the best car for transporting the cans.
A very large installation in the Tuileries garden is pictured below--a group of oars arranged in a circle.
We watched as the team assembled the work over a few days.
The work was included in the television news story about the exposition.
Another installation included a group of marble benches with phrases in different languages carved into the seats. Three of the benches are pictured below.
The next installation was Jean-Claude's favorite. Take a look at the photograph below and try to find it.
The installation consists of a chair placed in three different trees in the Tuileries garden. Here is a close up of one of the chairs.
The installation reminded Jean-Claude of his childhood: sitting in a doctor's waiting room, reading Highlights magazine and trying to solve the Hidden Pictures Puzzle.
