Museums in Paris: Grand Palais #2

We recently visited another temporary art exhibition at the Grand Palais.

El Greco (1541-1614) is considered to be one of the great old masters.  He has had a lasting impact on Western art, influencing even 20th century painters of the Blue Rider movement and Pablo Picasso.  Let's take a tour of the exhibition.

Below is a sampling of El Greco's from the exhibition.  We selected works that we liked or we thought represented El Greco's style and talent well.

El Greco frequently revisited the same subject over the years.  Below is another Annunciation.

El Greco's patrons were painted into this work.

Assumption of the Virgin by El Greco (1577-1579)
Jean-Claude especially likes the legend of St. Martin.

We admired the painting below for its amazing depiction of light and shadow.

Below is a close up of the great painters depicted in the lower right corner of the painting above.

We admired the painting below because of its otherworldly quality, telling a story from the Apocalypse.

Thanks for viewing the El Greco exhibition at the Grand Palais with us.
