Museums: National Museum of Women in the Arts #1 (Part 1 of 2)

D.C. is home to many museums.  Some are free to enter.  Others charge a fee.  Fortunately, museums that charge a fee often have a free day.  Since Susan loves a deal, we look for the free day.

Recently, we visited the National Museum of Women in the Arts on a free day.

The museum is located in the former Masonic Temple in D.C.  The building was completed in 1908 and restored to house the museum.

The museum has a wonderful collection of art from a diverse group of women artists.  Below is a sampling of the artwork.

Amy Sherald also painted the recently unveiled portrait of Michele Obama at the National Portrait Gallery.  The subjects of Sherald's paintings have eyes that follow you around the room.  Very cool.

P.S.  Below is a photo from our visit to St. Peter's Basilica in Rome last year.  The sculpture in the photo, Michelangelo's Pietà, resembles Sarah Bernhardt's sculpture pictured above.
