Museums: National Gallery of Art #3 (Mark Rothko)

If you like Mark Rothko's paintings, then visiting the National Gallery of Art is a must.  (Click here to read a brief Rothko bio.) 

The National Gallery has a large collection of paintings by Mark Rothko, totaling 1,000 items.  One of the newest rooms in the East Building is dedicated to Rothko's paintings. 

Since there are so many in the collection, the paintings on view are rotated throughout the year.  Below is a selection of paintings we enjoyed during a recent visit.      

 

Rothko's art is so abstract that some ask, is it art?  Couldn't a child paint the same thing?  Let us know you think.
