Autumn in DC: Fall Foliage #1

One of the hoped for benefits of spending a full year in a city is viewing all four seasons.  We enjoyed viewing the changing seasons in NYC during Year 1 and in Tuscany during Year 2.

D.C., because of its location, has four seasons.  Currently, Autumn is in full swing, with seasonal flowers and with leaves changing colors and falling to the ground.  Plus, the heat of Summer is long gone and jacket weather has arrived.  Now is a wonderful time to be outdoors in D.C. and we have made the most of it by walking to most places we visit.

Below are a few photos taken while strolling in D.C.

Do you know where we get the word "autumn"?  Coincidentally, autumn has a Tuscan connection.  The word "autumn" probably comes from the Etruscan language--the root "autu" means passing of the year.  From Etruscan, the word migrated into Latin, then French and English.  Who knew?

The word has special meaning for our Year 3 in D.C.  Like the Etruscan root "autu", Year 3 is drawing to an end in a few weeks.  While we are sad that Year 3 is passing, we are so happy with our year spent in D.C.

Perhaps, we will return in Year 11?
