Where do you live in Florence? #1

Where do we live in Florence?

We live in a lovely apartment in a 500 year old building near the center of Florence.  Our neighborhood is away from the tourist section and is inhabited by Florentines.  So, we have gone native, so to speak.

To be exact, we are:
  • 2 blocks from Santissima Annuziata square and church,
  • 2 blocks from the University of Florence,
  • 3 blocks from the nearest supermarket, and
  • fortunately, only 1 block from the Four Seasons Hotel (Woo hoo!  Drinks at the Four Seasons.)

Our building is located on Via Laura at #20.  Via Laura has a connection to the Medici family, like many things in Florence.  Lorenzo de' Medici (aka Lorenzo the Magnificent) supported development in the area with construction of a large home (a small palace) and a convent.  The name of the street where we live was changed to Via Laurenziana to honor Lorenzo.  Since Via Laurenziana is a mouthful, the street name was shortened to Via Laura.

Here is a photo of the front of our building.

P.S.  Where is Florence?  Florence is in Italy, in the Italian province of Tuscany.  Florence is halfway between Rome to south and Milan to the north.  Here is a map for the visually inclined.
