The Big Apple Circus is small circus with a big heart.
Founded in 1977, the circus brings happiness to New Yorkers throughout the holiday season and to thousands of hospitalized children around the United States with its Clown Care program.
We recently attended a performance at Lincoln Center. The theme was traveling the world during the 1920's It was an enjoyable trip.

Welcome to the Big Apple Circus! |
Opening scene: Lots of luggage for the world tour |
Hula hooping at the highest level |
More than 25 hula hoops? That person has skills. |
Amazing feats of strength. I wonder if these guys are already booked during Festivus. |
The Wheel of Wonder thrilled everyone, especially when the performers "accidentally" slipped. |
Performers search for their comrade high in the air. Where did he go? |
Whew! There he is. Dropping back Earth for a safe landing. |
Neither of us had attended a traditional circus in decades. (Cirque de Soleil doesn't count as a traditional circus.) What quickly became apparent was the "why" of this circus. As a not-for-profit organization, the Big Apple Circus is fully committed to making people happy. All sorts of people, young, old, vision- or hearing-impaired, cognitive-impaired, hospitalized and more. The circus just happens to be the vehicle for delighting and thrilling their audience, which they do extremely well.
If you ever have a chance to attend a performance, don't miss out.
