Museums in Paris: Musée Rodin (Part 2 of 2)

The interior of the museum is interesting.  It was once an ornate 18th century chateau.  In the 19th century, it was repurposed as a convent school and most of the ornate decoration was removed.  Recently, some decoration has been recovered and restored.  So, the interior is somewhat ornate.

The interior is filled with Rodin's art collection, including many finished works in marble and bronze, along with many plaster models for lost wax casting of bronzes, plus sculptures and paintings by other artists.  There are even a few surprises in the collection.

Among the works by other artists are depictions of Rodin, including a portrait by John Singer Sargent and busts by Camille Claudel and Maurice Haquette.

Susan thinks Haquette's bust resembles Brad Pitt.  Do you agree?

One of Rodin's most famous sculptures is housed in the museum, the marble version of Le Baiser ("The Kiss").

We spotted a colorful depiction of Rodin's Thinker painted by Munch.

The surprises in Rodin's collection are paintings by Monet and Van Gogh.  Who knew?

Thanks for touring the Musée Rodin with us.
