French Open 2019

The 2019 French Open just ended.  Although we did not attend in person, we watched some of the matches on television.

Before the tournament began, the event was promoted at a fan experience on the Place de la Concorde, not far from where we live.  Here in France, the event is known as Roland Garros, after the name of the tennis stadium in Paris, which was named in honor of WWI French fighter pilot Roland Garros.

That's one big tennis ball.  The tennis racket for hitting ball must be huge.
The brown box pictured above is actually a large room.  Inside is a fan experience:  a green-walled room equipped with 48 cameras arranged in a circle that capture a 3-D image of tennis players swinging rackets.  If you click on the video below, you can see famed mixed doubles partners Marie-Chantal and Jean-Claude.

(Did you see that Marie-Chantal left her purse on the court?)

The fan experience included recent posters of the event.  We liked the two posters below because of their artistry and emphasis of the tournament's clay courts.

The 2019 poster also caught our attention.  We could not decipher its symbolism.  We asked one of the attendants who admitted she had no idea.

Pop Quiz:  What does the 2019 Roland Garros poster represent?

Next Up:  The very surprising answer.
