Everyday Life in D.C. #5 (Part 2 of 2)

In an earlier post, we shared a newsletter article about one of our volunteer activities here in D.C.--serving a weekly lunch at our church, Grace's Table.  Volunteering has continued to be fun and rewarding.  Below is an article about the weekly lunch from the latest church newsletter (Nov./Dec. 2018).

Grace's Table:  An Impact Ministry of Grace Church
by Susan and Greg Bendlin

Talent, time, treasure.  Those ingredients help Grace's Table make a positive impact on the lives of dozens of friends and neighbors who are homeless or at the margins of homelessness.

To serve a hot lunch and host an interfaith Bible study every Saturday requires the talent, time, and treasure of many people and groups with strong connections to Grace Church.

One group joins Grace's Table from historic St. John's Episcopal Church on Lafayette Square.  Each month, a different group of St. John's volunteers commit to provide a complete meal and assist with serving it to guests of Grace's Table. Their contributions of talent, time, and treasure are invaluable in sustaining Grace's Table.

Recently, one of Grace Church's Koinonia [fellowship] groups volunteered to prepare and serve the meal.  The event was a family affair, with the addition of the children of Amy and Chris Shank and Joanna and David Bujard.  A Halloween theme made that particular Saturday at Grace's Table a special one, as evidenced by the kids' excellent costumes.  [Susan and Greg are members of the Koinonia group that volunteered.]
