Museums: National Gallery of Art #12

During another visit to the National Gallery of Art's West Building, we roamed around the lower level of the museum.  While there, we discovered some works of art depicting important historical figures.

Susan, who attended the University of Virginia, is a fan of Thomas Jefferson and was happy to see a bronze statue depicting Mr. Jefferson.  Like the many depictions of saints we viewed in Italy, Mr. Jefferson is holding an object that signifies something important about his life, the Declaration of Independence.

Greg is a fan of another person, not so tall as Thomas Jefferson.  Below is bronze statue depicting Napoleon Bonaparte as a general on horseback.

The most noteworthy works of art that we viewed were two paintings depicting George Washington.

We noticed that each of the depictions portrays a person who is calm, serious and perhaps a little bored.  It must have been tiresome for each subject to sit in the same pose for hours and hours.

Thanks for again visiting the National Gallery of Art with us.
