Pisa, not far from Florence, is a lovely place to visit, which we did recently. The principal sights are located in the Campo dei Miracoli, the Field of Miracles, UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. Below are a few photos from our visit to the Field of Miracles.

| The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a bell tower (campanile). It was started in 1173 and completed in 1372. The tower leans because it was constructed partly on hard ground and partly on soft ground. It once leaned 5.5 degrees off center. Today, after some engineering magic, the tower leans 4 degrees and is supposed to remain stable for 200 years. |

What's wrong with this picture?
If you look very closely at the photo above, you might notice something very interesting about the tower's upper floors. The floors on the right side are taller than the corresponding sides on the left. This attempt to correct the "tilt" was made centuries ago.
