Museums: Palazzo Davanzati (Part 2 of 2)

The tour of Palazzo Davanzati continues.

The house has many large, furnished rooms.  The original wall and ceiling decorations are well preserved and period furniture has been purchased and placed in rooms.  Below are some photos of the rooms.

The Great Hall, or audience room, for conducting business and hosting social gatherings:

The kitchen:

A large bellows for the fire
The bedrooms:  The house has several large bedrooms for the family members.  Not only were the bedrooms used for sleeping, but they were also used as a gathering place for members of the household and visitors.

Museum Displays:  The museum includes various items used or worn in daily life.  Below are items used for spinning yarn from wool.

Susan, who loves shoes, took the photo below.  Are those precursors to Ferragamo shoes, which are made around the corner?

Located in a bathroom is a large basin for bathing.  The bather would stand or kneel n the basin while washing with water from pitcher.  We hope the water was heated.

Check out the other feature in the bathroom, a toiler with lid.  The seat is very low.  Perhaps this toilet is a precursor to the 21st century "Squatty Potty".

Thanks for joining our tour of the Museum of the Old Florentine House.
