Near the end of our visit to Montecatini, we discovered a large pastry shop, the Pasticceria Giovannini.
What first caught our attention was a large cake in the display window. And by "large", we mean enormous. See the photo below, plus some other photos.

That is one large and beautifully decorated cake. The full-sized bottles in the photo (upper left) provide some scale for understanding that the cake could feed a lot of people. (Of course, we have one friend with the metabolism of a jet engine, who could probably eat the entire cake, provided there was plenty of milk on hand.) |

The shop's specialty is a large, thin wafer with almond filling. It resembles a communion wafer but is about 5" in diameter. Yum! |

Needless to say, we did not leave the shop empty-handed. We pigged out! |
Our visit to Montecatini was wonderful. We plan on visiting one of the spas next time, plus returning to the pastry shop.
