We learned from our expert guide Mar that street has evolved over time. Decades ago, most street art was illegal graffiti. Over time, many things changed, including growing acceptance of street art as legitimate, mainstream artwork. So, today, we can still find illegal graffiti and other illegally placed artwork. We can also find legal street art--both artwork that a building owner or commercial tenant consents to be placed and artwork that an owner or tenant commissions for a few shekels or major ducats. So, street art has transformed from a "post no bills' mentality to a strong desire to display public art for the people.
