Broadway's Rising Stars (Part 1 of 2)

Every year, many would-be Broadway musical performers arrive in NYC.  One source of talented hopefuls is the many theater arts programs in NYC, around the U.S. and around the world.  Examples are the programs at NYU, the Circle in the Square Theater School and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy, to name a few.

For the past 10 years, a handful of recent graduates from those programs have competed for a spot in an annual showcase called Broadway's Rising Stars.  Earlier this week, we enjoyed the 2016 edition and saw more than a dozen very talented performers belt out contemporary Broadway melodies, including songs from:
  • The Color Purple
  • The Producers
  • A Year with Frog and Toad
  • The Drowsy Chaperone
  • Light in the Piazza
  • Waitress
  • Hamilton
  • Wicked
  • Avenue Q
  • Book of Mormon
The talent was amazing and the quality of the performances was very strong.

Several performers from earlier showcases who have made it big on Broadway also performed at this year's showcase.  Needless to say, their performances were excellent.

As the show ended, we learned another meaning of bombing on Broadway.

Next up:  The NYPD Bomb Squad makes an appearance.
