Touring NYC: Street Art Tour (Part 1 of 4)

A tour of NYC is full of surprises.  A recent tour focused on street art, any art visible from the street. Our guide, a street artist and curator named Mar (full name Mar Kayle), led us on a three hour tour around SoHo, the East Village, China Town, the Lower East Side, NoLiTa and Little Italy.  What we quickly learned is that art is everywhere in that part of the city.  Rarely did we walk 10 feet and not spot another work of art.

Below and in additional Blog Parts 2-4, you will find some of the countless examples of street art that we saw on the tour.  Enjoy!

Two works art appear in this photo:  A variation on I Love New York is above, plus the lower part is a tribute to musician David Bowie, who had an apartment just down the block.

At first, the face was unseen and then came into focus.

Here, the thief in the bank vault  is confused, expecting to find loot and instead finding something far more precious.
