Traveling in France: Provins (Part 4 of 4)

Our visit to Provins continues.

What else is Provins known for?

Provins is well known for its medieval architecture that is still evident throughout the town, which is another reason why it is a World Heritage Site.

As we strolled through the town, we found many half-timbered houses built in the middle ages.

We lunched at Chez Mammy above
Below, Marie-Chantal poses in the ancient main square of the town, complete with well and stone cross.

Another medieval building in Provins is a church from the 1100's, the Collégiale Saint Quiriace.

The church has some history.  Joan of Arc once attended mass there, together with French King Charles VII.

French King Philippe Auguste was involved in the baptism here of Thibault the Great in 1201.

We toured the inside of the church which was high-ceilinged and very bright due to its many Gothic windows.

We especially liked the stained-glass windows in the Saint-Quirace chapel (pictured below).

Jean-Claude also liked the colorful carved stone panel below.

Provins is also known for its medieval tower from the 1100's, the Tour César.  The tower (pictured below) is built on a high point in Provins.

Thanks for visiting Provins with us.
