Street Art: Florence #18

During a recent ramble in Florence, we visited the courtyard and garden of the Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the very large former home of the Medici family.

In the courtyard, we were delighted to see a temporary art installation.  While not typical street art, the artwork was outside and just steps from the street.

The installation (pictured below) was created by two people, Chinese architect Liu Kecheng and Chinese photographer Chong'er.  The installation is called Unreal City and is a collection of stainless steel plates, stacked to form a large structure.  Some of the plates are mirrors and others are photographs.

What makes the artwork especially interesting is the flock of birds swirling overhead.

We studied the installation for a while to understand what it means.  We are mystified but intrigued.

If you have any ideas, please share them.

P.S.  The flock of birds made Greg think of the Hitchcock film The Birds
