Florence Chocolate Fair (Part 2 of 2)

Apparently, the people of Tuscany love flags.  The Florentines are no exception.  They love waving, twirling and throwing their flags.  They even juggle and fight with their flags.  No joke.

At the Chocolate Fair, one of the Florentine flag-throwing clubs performed for the large crowd.  What would a fair be without some flag throwing?

The flag-throwers, or sbandieratori, were well-practiced and they were a diverse group--young and old, female and male, etc.  They performed with the musical assistance of trumpeters and drummers.

The performance started with a parade around the square where the Chocolate Fair is hosted.  Then, the troupe performed different routines in a large open area for the crowd's enjoyment.

Below are some photos, plus a few videos so you can see the sbandieratori in action.

We hope you enjoyed the flag-throwing performance as much as we did.  There will be more.  Many towns in Tuscany have their own teams of sbandieratori.  Good times.
