Pop Quiz #5, Answers

1519 was a big year in France.

Yesterday, we asked:  Can you name at least three events in 1519 that had some importance in the history of France?

Here are the answers.

A famous birth:  Future French King Henry II, son of French King Francis I, was born on March 31, 1519 in the royal residence Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.

A famous death:  Leonardo da Vinci, whose patron was King Francis I, died on May 2, 1519, at his home in Amboise.

A famous building:  King Francis I started construction in 1519 of the royal residence Château de Chambord near Blois.

The extra credit question was not easy.  The famous birth outside France was the birth on April 13, 1519, in Florence of Catherine de' Medici, the future wife of King Henry II and not-so-beloved French Queen and Regent.

We have been fortunate because we have seen each of the special exhibitions celebrating these events.  There will one more exhibition in October, an exhibition at the Louvre devoted to Leonardo da Vinci.

Thanks for taking the quiz.   We hope you did well. (Don't feel bad.  Susan didn't get all the answers even though she saw all these exhibits recently!)
