Today's post is part 1 of a pop quiz. Tomorrow's post, part 2, will provide the answer.
Pop Quiz: Green, white and red in Florentine religious architecture represent what?
If you have followed this blog, you have seen many photos of religious buildings in Florence.
You might have noticed some of the buildings have a similar color scheme. Outside and inside, three colors are often present--green, white and red.
Below are some phots from earlier blog posts.
The tri-color scheme is no coincidence. The architects and builders of Florence's religious buildings over the centuries intentionally chose those three colors because together they represent something very important from a Christian religious perspective. In fact, the builders went to great lengths to find colored marble and bring it to Florence--green marble from Prato, white marble from Carrara and red marble from Siena.
If you need a clue, here it is: Saul of Tarsus.
Good luck.
