Travels in Italy--Milan (Part 2 of 3)

After visiting Milan's main square, we walked to a nearby museum, the Museo del Novecento.

Museo del Novecento
The museum opened in 2010 and is dedicated to Italian art from the last century, the 1900's.  (The Italian novecento means the 1900's.)

We enjoyed exploring the collection.  We recognized themes and influences evident in French, Spanish and American art from the same time period.

We took a few photos during our visit.  Enjoy.

Greg especially liked the Tancredi pictured above.  It reminded him of some of Jackson Pollock's works a few years before.  While similar, Tancredi's work is more complex and colorful.

Detail from Tancredi's painting, showing the complexity and many colors.

In addition to 20th century works by Italian artists, the museum also has a collection of works by other artists.  Here are two by Pablo Picasso.

While touring the museum, we spotted a fascinating work of art in the form of the chair pictured below.  The chair is elegant and very comfortable.

Next Up:  More art in Milan.
