Travels in Italy--Milan (Part 3 of 3)

Around the corner from the Museo di Novecento is the Palazzo Reale (royal palace).  The palace is Milan's former seat of government.  Today, after decades of restoration following partial destruction by bombing during WWII, the palace serve as a cultural center of art and history.

We visited the Palazzo Reale to view a temporary art exhibit:  "Keith Haring, About Art."  You might recognize Keith Haring's artwork from the pictures below.  He was a street artist based in NYC in the 1980's and also created a large collection of studio art.  His career lasted a dozen years and was cut short by his untimely death in 1990 due to AIDS.

We took a few photos until one of the friendly guards pointed out that no photos were allowed.

At the entrance to the exhibition is a self-portrait of Keith Haring.
The exhibition had a large number of Haring's works, many of which were inspired by the work of earlier artists.  The exhibition included some of the earlier works (originals or replicas) for comparison to Haring's corresponding works.

Da Vinci's drawing "Vitruvian Man" possibly inspired one of Haring's paintings.

A sculpture by Michelangelo might have inspired another Haring painting.

Thanks for coming along on our visit to Milan.  We hope you enjoyed like we did.
