FIAC--Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (Part 2 of 3)

Our visit to the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain continues.

FIAC is an annual contemporary art exposition in Paris.   Founded in 1974, the exposition today features galleries and artists from around the world.  The exposition has grown so large that it needs a large space like the exhibition hall of the Grand Palais.  In fact, the show is so large that it overflows into other big rooms of the Grand Palais, into the neighboring Petit Palais and even out into the streets of Paris.

We toured the entire exposition, which took a long time.  Touring the exposition was like visiting an art museum.  We saw all sorts of contemporary art.  Some was wonderful.  Some not so much.  There was a mix of paintings and sculptures by well-known artists and by lesser known artists.

Here is a small sampling of artwork we liked, along with other pieces that we didn't like so much, and that will give you an idea of the range of works featured at the exposition.

Two works by Alexander Calder (about 1971)

(We thought it was shameful for people to discard their Coke cans below the artwork.)

Marie-Chantal is a fan of Keith Haring.  She enjoyed studying the all of the imagery in the painting below.

Jean-Claude especially liked the gallows with hourglass pictured below, because of the symbolism and story being told.

Thanks for touring the FIAC exposition with us.  But wait, there's more.

Next Up:  FIAC at the Petit Palais.
