The island of Murano is a short boat ride from Venice. For centuries, Murano has been home to expert glass makers, who produce everything imaginable, from small glass beads to huge glass chandeliers.
We visited Murano and toured a working factory and the Glass Museum (the Museo del vetro)
We traveled to Murano via a private water taxi, the limousine of Venice.
Like Venice, Murano is built on islands interlaced with canals and bridges.
Gino Mazzuccato Glass Factory: At a large factory, we observed a demonstration, watching a glass vase and a horse being expertly produced in a very short time. We also visited the factory's expansive showroom, which was AMAZING. Since photos were not allowed, you will have to our word or, better yet, visit and see for yourself.

Check out the cigarette in the glassmaker's mouth and his t-shirt. |
Making a glass horse:
The glass is still so hot that paper will burn on contact |
Horse on fire! |
Enzo Ferrari called and wants his horse back. |
Since Murano's roadways are actually waterways, trucks are replaced with boats, like the green UPS "truck" and garbage "truck" pictured below.
Thanks for meandering in Murano with us.
