Food Truck Mania

The food truck revolution is a worldwide phenomenon.  While food trucks have been around for a long time, the mania about food truck cuisine is a more recent development.

Food truck mania has arrived in Florence.  Not far from our house, the Lion's Fountain Food Truck recently opened.  It is an American style food truck, with signage in English and American food, such as hamburgers and fries.  Now, the "truck" is not exactly mobile.  The truck is actually a counter made to look like a food truck.   With wheels and an outdoor seating area, the food truck experience is complete.  The food was pretty good too.

Some dude patiently waiting for his cheeseburger and fries.

P.S.  All over Florence, you can find food stands selling "trippa", also known as "lampredotto".  One hungry day, we joined a line at a food stand before realizing a tripe roll was in our immediate future.  Not being tripe aficionados, we politely excused ourselves.

Eating low-cost tripe is a long standing habit in Florence (some dude named Michelangelo probably ate tripe in Florence before moving up in the world).  Eating tripe is also a recent craze in Florence, spilling over into the hipster universe and even high end establishments like the nearby Four Seasons Hotel.

Exactly what is Florentine-style tripe?  Florentine tripe is made from the lining of a cow’s fourth stomach.  The brown meat is simmered for a long time with tomato, celery and onion and then served in a bread roll, with a green sauce made from garlic, anchovies and parsley

We have never seen a tripe food stand without a long line at lunchtime.  We plan on sampling this Florentine specialty.   Care to join us?
