Today was our last full day in London before we start touring other parts of the country.
We first visited the Royal Albert Hall, completed in 1871. We enjoyed a guided tour and learned about the Royal Albert Hall’s long history and its many varied uses over the decades—from music of all types to theater and more. One interesting use is sports, such as tennis, basketball and even indoor track.
The Royal Albert Hall was named by Queen Victoria for her late husband Prince Albert.
The Royal Albert Hall is a lavish venue. Inside, it resembles a Roman amphitheater. In fact, the design is partly based on the Roman amphitheaters in Arles and Nîmes.
We also visited the nearby Prince Albert Memorial. Because it was a sunny day (hard to believe, we know), the memorial’s gold leaf shone brightly.
