Museums: The Kreeger Museum #2 (Part 1 of 2)

We visited the Kreeger Museum earlier this year and, like the Phillips Collection, a large portion of the building was closed for renovation.  Recently, the Kreeger reopened its entire building.  So, before Year 3 ended, we returned to Kreeger to see what we missed on the first visit.  We are so happy that we did.

Here is a sampling of the works we saw.

Next Up:  More contemporary art at the Kreeger.

Autumn in DC: Fall Foliage (Part 2 of 2)

During the first three years of the 10 Year Plan, we have been most fortunate to enjoy wonderful views from the apartments where we lived.

In NYC, we enjoyed seeing the Queensboro Bridge every day and night.

In Florence, we watched the hills north of town change colors as the sun rose and fell and as the seasons passed.

In D.C., we have a nice view of trees and sky.  With the arrival of  Autumn in D.C., one tree in particular caught (pictured below) our attention with its vibrancy.

Over a month, we watched the same tree change color and shed its leaves.  We captured the change with photos and set it to music.  Click on the video below to see the change.

Art in D.C.

Art is where you find it.

We recently spotted this lovely painting by an unknown artist.

Pop Quiz:  Where did we see the painting?
     a)  The National Gallery of Art
     b)  The Phillips Collection
     c)  The restroom at Trader Joe's

Surprisingly, the correct answer is "c", the restroom at Trader Joe's.  Art is where you find it.

Strolling in D.C. #10

While strolling in D.C., we never know what we might find.

Recently, we ventured out for a stroll in chilly weather.  Along the way, Susan made a new friend.  Check it out.

Some random hottie with a new friend
After talking for a bit, Susan learned that her new friend is a Carolina Tarheels fan (note the Carolina blue skin), loves recycling all sorts of stuff, enjoys saving money and squeals happily when its ears are rubbed.

We hope you make new friends in your travels.

P.S.  We spotted that pig again and learned a bit more.

The pig is one of 15 pigs located next to D.C. middle and high schools.  The pigs represent piggy banks and were placed in 2005 as art of Capital One's "stash your cash" campaign to teach money management skills to D.C. teenagers.

P.P.S.  During a stroll on another day, we spotted another pig.

Seasonal Decoration in D.C.

With the arrival of the holiday season starting with Thanksgiving, we have noticed seasonal decorations appearing here and there.  Below is a photographic sampling of seasonal decorations.

In Georgetown, the streetlights are crowned with wreaths and red bows.

Store windows are being decorated with seasonal themes.

Anthropologie in Georgetown.  The bear on the left seems to be saying:  "Are you looking at me?"
Even the dude in red has started appearing around town.

In Georgetown, we spotted some Pilgrims hungrily eyeing a large turkey.

Later, in the same spot, we spotted some elves tending to their orchard.

Some seasonal soldiers have made an appearance.

Our friend Steve found some seasonal joy.

We wish everyone a joyful season.
