Music in D.C: Blues Alley #1

Last week, we visited Blues Alley in Georgetown.

The club is actually located in an alley, in a very old building that was once a carriage house.  The crowd was diverse and lively, while the food and beverages were tasty.

The performer on the night we visited was singer Sy Smith.  Because she was raised in the D.C. area, the audience included many family members and friends, making for an especially lively evening.

Sy Smith has a beautiful voice with tremendous range.  If you remember the singing styles of Minnie Riperton and Deniece Williams, then you have a sense of Sy Smith's singing style.  She was backed by a group of talented musicians and two singers.  The performance was full of energy and warmth.

You can listen to one of the songs she performed, Now and Later, by clicking here.  Enjoy.
