Museums: Smithsonian Institution National Museum of Natural History

Did you know that the U.S. has a National Gem Collection?

Neither did we.

The extremely large collection of gems is kept in the National Museum of Natural History here in Washington.  The collection includes diamonds and all sorts of other precious and semi-precious gems and minerals.

During a recent visit, we enjoyed viewing the many varieties of gems and minerals in the collection.

Some of the gems caught our attention.  Check it out.

P.S. While visiting the Natural History Museum, we can across a freak of nature:  half-man, half-squid.
