Another Day Filled with Art (Part 2 of 2)

The National Gallery is also home to one of Vincent van Gogh’s “Sunflowers” paintings.

Yesterday, two Stop Oil protesters threw tomato soup on the painting and each glued a hand to the wall.

Fortunately, the painting, which is covered in glass was not damaged.  It was removed, cleaned and returned for display.  You can still see the spots on the wall below the painting where the protesters glued their hands.

Thanks for visiting the National Gallery with us.

Another Day Filled with Art (Part 1 of 2)

Viewing works of art is something we love to do and something we greatly missed during the break in The 10 Year Plan.

Today, we enjoyed a healthy dose of viewing great art when we visited The National Gallery in London.  The museum’s collection consists primarily of Western paintings from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century.  The collection is varied and includes some rare masterpieces, such Leonardo’s “Virgin of the Rocks”.

The National Gallery has a very good collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.  Here is a sampling.

Please stand by.  More to come.

A Day Filled with Nature

Today, we visited the Museum of Natural History.

Some random hottie photo bombed our shot of the museum.

The museum is a grand building from an earlier time and is filled with all sorts of specimens—from precious gems to meteorites to dinosaurs.  Check it out.

The Ostro Stone is larger than an adult hand.

We also visited the gift shop. Some luck person out there will be receiving a unique gift this holiday season.

Thanks for visiting the Museum of Natural History with us.

A Day Filled with Art

Today was a day filled with art.

We visited the Tate Modern, a museum devoted to modern and contemporary art that is housed in a former powerhouse located along the Thames.  As you can imagine, the building is huge with a cavernous atrium and many levels with galleries.

The Tate’s permanent collection is interesting and we spotted some wonderful works of art, including a sculpture by one of Greg’s favorite artists.

The Tate Modern is also hosting a temporary exhibition devoted to Paul Cezanne.  The collection of works assembled is extensive and varied and we were so pleased to view it.  Here is a sampling.

We even spotted a fellow visiter who seemed to be making her own artistic statement.  Check it out.

Thanks for visiting the Tate Modern with us.

A long way from home

Today, we arrived in London!

Although jet-lagged and sleep-deprived, we resumed The 10 Year Plan with gusto by spending most of the day touring the Victoria & Albert Museum.  Our visit included seeing some fantastic Italian Renaissance art (which made Greg happy), some exquisite “jewellery” (which made Susan very happy) and other wonderful works of art and treasures   We even spotted a lovely bracelet and tiara worn by Queen Victoria.

Also during the day, we spotted a genuine phone booth.  So, Susan decided to emulate E.T., as you can see below

Resuming The 10 Year Plan

Good morning and greetings from Orlando.

Today, we are resuming The 10 Year Plan.  Sort of.

As you may remember, we spent Year 5 of the plan in San Francisco.  Because the city was locked down due to the pandemic, we had a peaceful year throughout 2020 and then returned to Florida in early 2021 where we have been since.

Finally, after 18+ months of sojourning in Florida, we leave today for one month in England.

Why one month and not 12?  Well, the arrival of grandson Christopher three months ago is the primary reason.  It is hard to resist wanting to see his adorable smile.

So, we will return after a month in England to spend more time with Christopher through the end of the year.  Then, in the Spring of 2023, we hope to resume The 10 Year Plan with an extended visit to England.

Over the next month, we plan to post periodically about travels in England.  So, please stay tuned.

In the meantime, we everyone well.

Seasonal Color

Each season here in San Francisco has unique characteristics--from weather to clothing to sights and sounds.

Recently, we have noticed a common color of this autumn season.  Check it out.

A vintage Datsun 240Z in orange.

A socially responsible shortbread cookie.

Another orange-hued sunrise over San Francisco Bay.

Even the moon is orange-colored.
