Visiting Virginia Vintners

We recently visited northern Virginia with longtime friends to tour a few wineries.      

Over the past few decades, more than 200 wineries have sprung up in Virginia, many in the northern part of Virginia.  Our friends Susan and Barry, who moved to Northern Virginia from Orlando a few years ago, invited us to join them for a day in wine country.   

We visited three wineries.  Our first stop was Chateau O'Brien at Northpoint, where we enjoyed a tasty picnic lunch on the veranda while overlooking the vineyard, the valley beyond and the mist-covered hills in the distance.

Next, we visited the Aspen Dale Winery at the Barn, a former horse farm.  The farm was probably established 200 years and today operates as a vineyard and winery.  Fortunately, the original buildings are still standing and the farm has livestock.

Our last stop was Delaplane Cellars, a modern winery with a large tasting room set high on a hill with large windows and wonderful vistas.  A flavorful white wine added to the enjoyment of the rolling countryside.  

We thoroughly enjoyed our day touring wineries.  Barry and Susan were knowledgeable and congenial hosts, making the adventure all the more memorable.
