Viewing great art is one of our passions. So, we were pleasantly surprised when we learned the Scottish National Gallery in Edinburgh was hosting an exhibition of French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art.
The National Galleries
We should not have been surprised. During the first half of the 20th century, wealthy Scottish industrialists collected a lot of artwork, especially French modern art.
As a result, Scotland is home to a very good collection of French Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.
Here is a sampling of some of our favorites.
We were especially delighted to see the painting. During Year 4 in Paris, the view from our apartment resembled the scene below.
After viewing the French exhibition, we visited the main collection and saw two paintings of note. The first was a famous Scottish painting.
The second painting was an unexpected surprise, a purported da Vinci.
Thanks for visiting the Scottish National Gallery with us.
