Churches in Paris: Église Saint-François-Xavier de Paris

Another church that we visited during Year 4 is Église Saint-François-Xavier de Paris.  The church is located on the Left Bank in the 7th arrondissement and is one of the largest in Paris.  Its two towers are a visible part of the Paris skyline. 

The church opened in 1874 and has Italian Renaissance and neoclassical architectural features.  Like Saint-Augustin, the church has a metallic framework.  However, unlike Saint-Augustin, the framework is hidden from view.  So, the church has a traditional appearance.  

The church is dedicated to Francis Xavier, a Spanish missionary and co-founder of the Jesuits.  He is the  patron saint of missionaries and the church is the home of the parish of foreign missions.

Saint-François-Xavier is beautifully decorated.  Below is a photographic tour of the church.

Behind the main altar is an ornate chapel dedicated to Mary.
