Heatwave and Where Do You Live in Paris?

Today's blog post addresses two topics: yesterday's record heat in Europe and where do we live in Paris.

Yesterday (7/25/2019), a mass of hot air blanketed Europe, breaking high temperature records in many places.  

In Paris, the previous high temperature record of 104.7°F was set on July 28, 1947.  That record was broken yesterday.  The high temperature in Paris was 108.7°F.

Now, the question of where do we live in Paris?  We live in an apartment without air conditioning.  But don't cry for us, Argentina.  Although high temperatures can be extremely dangerous, we are fine.  We avoided the sun and we used fans and drank lots of water to stay cool and hydrated.  Plus, overnight, the heatwave passed and the temperature dropped 30 degrees.  So, this morning is a normal summer morning in Paris.

Why don't we have air conditioning?  Many apartments in Paris do not have A/C, primarily because high summer temperatures are rare.  So, we gambled when we selected a lovely, well-located apartment without AC.  

Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.   

Of course, we are living in Paris.  We count that as a win.  

P.S.  While watching news coverage of the heatwave (canicule in French), we saw a map forecasting temperatures the day after the heatwave passed.  We remarked at how much the map resembled the French flag.
