Shocking Event Today in Paris

Today, in Paris, we saw something we never imagined or wanted to see.

After dinner, we left our apartment for our evening walk.  When we arrived in the Tuileries Garden, we smelled wood smoke, an uncommon event.  We looked around and saw smoke billowing in the distance, rising beyond the Louvre.  We also heard the non-stop wailing of sirens in all directions.

We decided to investigate and walked toward the Seine for a view of what might be happening.  As we turned the corner, we saw something unbelievable--Notre Dame Cathedral was on fire.  These are the photos that Greg took on his cell phone.

We watched for a while on a bridge, the Pont Royal.  We were not alone.  Many other people stood and watched quietly in shock and disbelief.  Some were crying.

The smoke was so thick that it obscured the sun.

We are deeply saddened by this event.  We saw something we never imagined or wanted to see.
