Our tour of L'église de la Sainte-Trinité continues. Let's head downstairs to the crypt.
In the church's very large crypt, the church hosts a luncheon four days per week for neighbors who are homeless or at the margins.
The crypt of the church arranged for lunch. |
The luncheon is staffed by many volunteers, including members of the American Women's Group in Paris, which Susan recently joined. We recently went with other AWG volunteers to serve lunch.
The luncheon is appropriately called La Soupe.
Each day, a hearty, healthy soup is served, along with rice, bread, coffee, tea and dessert. When we volunteered, we chopped vegetables for the soup--carrots, potatoes, onions, leeks and parsnips. Ground beef and cabbage were added.

Lots of cooks in the kitchen |
In addition to preparing the food, we served the meal to the guests.

P.S. Serving a hearty soup reminded Greg of the Seinfeld episode with The Soup Nazi. Instead of saying "No soup for you!", La Soupe stands for "Yes, soup for you!". (You can click here to see an excerpt from the episode.)
