Artists in Florence #5

Where we wander in Florence, we see artwork.  Some is old--from the middle ages or the Renaissance--and some is modern.

Our favorite local eatery hosts a collection of contemporary artwork on its walls.  The artist is Walter Baldi and the style is a mix of abstract expressionism and drawing.  One of the pieces is pictured below.

We suspect the artist starts with a blank canvas and then paints a seemingly haphazard background of varied colors and shapes.  Next, the artist studies the unfinished painting to see what images might be present in the haphazard collage of color and shape.  Then, the artists draws black outlines of the shapes seen in the painting.  What emerges is a beautiful depiction of faces and symbols that tell a story.

What story do you think is depicted in the painting pictured above?

Below are other paintings by the same artist.
