Our return visit to Milan's cathedral continues.
After visiting the museum, we ventured next door to the Duomo. We walked around the cathedral and saw more amazing sculptures decorating the church's exterior.

After walking around the cathedral, we took an elevator to the roof of the cathedral. The roof consists of a series of terraces at different levels. The terraces allow visitors to view up close the cathedral's ornamentation that cannot be seen or is barely visible from the ground. Walkways and steps create a pathway around the lower terraces and a stairway to the high terrace, which is the roof over the cathedral's nave.
During our walk on the terraces, we saw how ornately and extensively the cathedral is decorated. Wherever we looked, we saw a marble statue or other carved marble. Since pictures tell the story best, here are some photos from our visit.
There were gargoyles galore.
The cathedral's roof is decorated everywhere with all sorts of architectural ornamentation.
There are statues everywhere.
From the top of the cathedral, we saw amazing vistas.

On the highest terrace, we had a better view of the highest spire statue, the Madonnina. Still, because the statue is placed so high above the roof, it is nonetheless hard to see.

Thanks for joining us to learn more about Milan's cathedral, Italy's largest and most ornate.
