Liberty (Part 1 of 2)

Last week, the cosmos conspired, or so it seemed.  Fate, karma or chance allowed us to enjoy unrelated events in very quick succession.  While the events were unrelated, after reading the two posts, you will understand why we think there was a cosmic conspiracy.

Months ago, we reserved spots to climb the Statue of Liberty.  Up to 500 daily visitors are allowed to climb to the crown and reservations months in advance are a must.

So, the day finally arrived.  The morning was cloudy with a threat of rain.  By the time we stepped off the boat onto Liberty Island, the sun was shining through scattered clouds.  We climbed to the top of the pedestal where the view was amazing.  Susan then hustled up the narrow spiral stairway to the crown.  (If you look very closely at the photo below, you can spot her in one of the windows of the crown.)

The Statue of Liberty's original torch, replaced after repair and refurbishment of the statue, now on display inside the bottom of the pedestal.
