Freezin' for a Reason--UPDATE

16 days and counting.  Tick, tock.

As of today, there are only 16 days until Greg takes the polar plunge in the Atlantic Ocean on New Year's Day.  Fortunately, Greg has acquired more essential pieces of his frosty finery, seen below.

By the way, to insure Greg does not wimp out, please consider donating $5 to Camp Sunshine for sick kids. 'Cause we are Freezin' for a Reason.  Or, to ensure Greg does not send you a photo of himself in his glacial garb, please consider a $10 donation.  Click here to ensure Greg takes the plunge and you avoid receiving a photo.

Arctic apparel for the polar plunge:  bear hat and paws

Original Post:

What are you doing on January 1, 2016?

If you will be in NYC on January 1, please join Greg for the Annual New Years Day Swim hosted by the Coney Island Polar Bear Club.
That's right.  Greg has apparently lost what little of his mind he still had.  The water will be frigid, the wind will be blowing and perhaps the snow will be drifting.

Greg already has his outfit ready.
Essential items:  Swim trunks and neoprene boots
The event is more than a great way to get the new year kicked off with a bracing Brrrrrr.  The event raises money to send families to Camp Sunshine in Maine.

The goal this year is send more than 25 families to Camp Sunshine.
Camp Sunshine is a wish-fulfillment camp located on Sebago Lake.  It operates year-round and provides week-long, no-cost stays to families affected by life-threatening childhood illnesses.  The camp hosts families from around the U.S. and the world.  If you are familiar with the Hole in the Wall/Serious Fun Camps or Give Kids the World, Camp Sunshine shares the same important mission.  Camp Sunshine has a top overall Charity Navigator rating:  ★★★★.

Greg is not looking for donations.  However, if you want to make sure Greg does not chicken out and opt for the toes-only Chicken Dip instead of the Polar Plunge, then a small donation is welcome.

For a $5 donation, Greg promises to send you a post-plunge photo.  For a $10 donation, Greg promises not to send you a post-plunge photo.  Click here if you want to ensure Greg takes the plunge.

P.S.  Assuming Greg recruits a teammate, the team will need a name.  All suggestions are welcome.  The team name Major Shrinkage is already taken.

Good morning!

Guerrilla Art--More

Wherever we venture in New York City, we see guerrilla art.  Here are some recent examples.
An outside elevator door on a SoHo street.  Graffiti and more.  From The Simpsons, Ralph Wiggum says, "Eat boogers, not animals."

A mural in Little Italy on a Mulberry Street wall:  Audrey Hepburn by Tristan Eaton (probably not true guerrilla art since it was painted with permission as part of the L.I.S.A. Project ("Little Italy Street Art"))

The base of a lamppost in Little Italy:  "And yet it moves", referring to the Earth after recanting the claim that the Earth moves around the Sun, not vice versa (also translated as the facts are the facts no matter what you say)

Holiday Windows: Macy's

Macy's knows holiday windows.  This year, Macy's is saluting the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas.  Check it out.

NYC Holiday Decorations

From early November onward, NYC's appearance is spruced up, so to speak.  The city is adorned with, lights, trees and other sorts of seasonal decorations.  We have already seen many holiday windows and shared some photos.  Here are some other photos we want to share.  Enjoy!

Metropolitan Museum of Art--Holiday Decoration

Recently, we ventured to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and found a Christmas Tree decorated with all sorts of ornaments, #MetChristmasTree.  The exhibit is called the "Christmas Tree and Neapolitan Baroque Crèche" and was first exhibited in 1957.  The website tells more of the story:

"The Museum continues a longstanding holiday tradition with the presentation of its Christmas tree, a
favorite of New Yorkers and visitors from around the world. The brightly lit, twenty-foot blue spruce
features eighteenth-century Neapolitan angels and cherubs hovering among its boughs and groups of
realistic crèche figures flanking the Nativity scene at its base."
